Baton Rouge, LA (April 2, 2009) – Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB), in cooperation with the Louisiana State Police and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is sponsoring its fifth annual anti-litter campaign weekend, Friday through Sunday, April 17 - 19, 2009. Zero Tolerance For Litter raises awareness for citizens on the consequences of littering and dumping. The effort is intended to send a strong message from enforcement agencies that litterers will be actively pursued and fined.

HAMMOND---Residents on the northwest corner of Hammond's council district 5 can expect a brief power outage Wednesday morning, designed for Entergy crews to complete much needed repairs in that area of town.
Hammond City Councilman Mike Williams announced Tuesday morning that Entergy officials contacted him to notify customers about a planned power outage, scheduled for approximately 3 a.m. Wednesday, for residents in the Westdale Subdivision, Western Ave, Loungeleaf, Martens, Nashville, Hooks and Mauroner Drive areas of town.

HAMMOND---Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster announced today that he is seeking public input on the proposed desegregation plan for the Tangipahoa Parish School System.
Foster said the plan "represents a challenge the citizens of business community of Hammond must address to move our city forward."

HAMMOND---Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster announced today that the Minnesota Park railroad track will be closed Wednesday and Thursday of next week while crews redo the crossing.
Foster said the Canadian National Railroad will close the Minnesota Park crossing at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19 and reopen it no later than 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 20.

The Public is invited to attend the next regular meeting of the Stormwater Advisory Committee, March 19, 2009 at 3:00PM in the City Council Chambers. The focus of the agenda will be on the Proposed Stormwater Ordinance. The Ordinance was presented for a vote at the March 3rd council meeting, but was tabled until April 7, 2009 in order for citizens to learn more about the content of the ordinance.

The Keep Hammond Beautiful Committee and the Mayor of the City of Hammond invites the community to a Clean City Day "Show your Love" Saturday, February 14, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Volunteers are asked to meet at 8:30 a.m. in Cate Square Park. (If there is a "Rain Day" then it will be scheduled for the following Saturday).

HAMMOND---The City of Hammond will initiate debris pick up for small limbs and branches which fell during last week's winter ice storm.
Mayor Mayson Foster said the city will use its own crews to begin the process of cleaning city streets, ditches, and laterals of debris that may have accumulated during the storm.

HAMMOND---The City of Hammond displayed its commitment to beautification by proudly showcasing its recent "Cleanest City" awards at the Keep Hammond Beautiful Day celebration in Zemurray Park. Mayor Mayson Foster's administration has won the award twice in the last three years, and Foster's goal is to see the city become a model for beautification efforts across the state.

The regularly scheduled Quarterly Non-Profit Workshop set for this Friday, September 12, 2008 has been postponed. Due to the recent extreme weather conditions and potential emergency of Hurricane Ike in the Gulf of Mexico, the City of Hammond has chosen to postpone the workshop until Friday, September 26, 2008. The same time will be allowed: 9:00 - 12 Noon. It will be held at the Regions Bank located at 201 NW Railroad Avenue, in Downtown Hammond. Our speakers will be Gallinghouse and Associates, a public relations and marketing firm; and the Urban Entrepreneur Program (UEP) which provides technical assistance to current and aspiring small business owners. HAMMOND--- Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster says the city will increase traffic enforcement around school zones to remind motorists to drive safely as Friday, Aug. 8, marks the first day of school.
The Mayor said that the Hammond Police will partner in the initiative, Operation Team Hammond for Safe Hammond Schools. The program will kick off this week with the start of classes at all Hammond area schools.

HAMMOND---Saturday, Oct. 4 is Election Day, and Mayor Mayson Foster has a campaign message of his own: Campaigns signs in city rights-of-way are illegal in Hammond.
"The City of Hammond has its own campaign. As the reigning 2008 Cleanest City in Louisiana, we are working every day to retain our title, and Hammond will not allow campaign litter to distract us from our goal of a safe and Clean Hammond 365 days of the year," Foster said.

HAMMOND---TEAM HAMMOND will "Light Up the Sky on the 3rd of July" with the City's biggest-ever fireworks extravaganza as Hammond celebrates Independence Day with its annual community gathering in Zemurray Park.
The 10th annual event will be held Thursday, July 3, starting at 5 p.m. in Zemurray Park, located at the corners of S. Oak and W. Coleman Ave. in Hammond. Hosted by TEAM HAMMOND, the event is sponsored by Parish National Bank and a number of local businesses.

The Pine Ridge Weed & Seed Steering Committee announces a Community Wide meeting to be held Wednesday, June 18th, 2008 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Safe Haven facility. The Safe Haven is in Martin Luther King Park located at 700 Martin Luther King Drive in Hammond, LA. The community wide meeting is open to all residents of the City of Hammond. The event will include a dedication of the KaBoom playground, newly installed Splash Pad, exhibit recent additions to the park, and an Informational Fair.

<b>Entergy Louisiana Awards Beautification Grant to Hammond Area Community Foundation</b>
<i>Award made as part of Keep America Beautiful program</i>
HAMMOND, La. - Entergy Louisiana, LLC, in partnership with Keep America Beautiful Inc., recently presented the Hammond Area Community Foundation with a $1,000 grant to help fund the city's school-based litter education program.
The city's Litter Abatement and Control officer presents an education program to local third- and fourth-grade students that focuses on the harmful effects of litter. Students are also taught how they can protect their neighborhoods and playgrounds against litter. For their participation, the students are made Junior Litter Officers.
