Hammond---Mayor Mayson Foster presents the keys to a new shuttle bus for use by the Tangipahoa Parish Council on Aging, represented by Debi Fleming and Ray Waldo, to enhance Hammond's public transportation system. In 2007, the City partnered with COA to provide a free bus service Monday through Fridays for residents of Hammond.

HAMMOND---Mayor Mayson Foster announced today that the City of Hammond has been awarded a $23,174 grant from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund (BTF) to support the Baseball Improvement and Renovation Project and provide funding for a new batting cage for Stire Field, and other improvements at local ball fields.

HAMMOND---The City of Hammond's Community Build playground event, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17, has been postponed because of a shipping delay on the equipment.
The project is being done in partnership with the Pine Ridge Weed & Seed community.

HAMMOND---Saturday, Oct. 20 is Election Day, and Mayor Mayson Foster has a campaign message of his own: Campaigns signs in city rights-of-way are illegal in Hammond.
"The City of Hammond has its own campaign. As the reigning 2007 Cleanest City in Louisiana, we are working every day to retain our title, and Hammond will not allow campaign litter to distract us from our goal of a safe and Clean Hammond 365 days of the year," Foster said.

HAMMOND--- Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster says the city has increased traffic enforcement around school zones to remind motorists to drive safely, now that classes have resumed.
The Mayor said that the Hammond Police will partner in the initiative, Operation Team Hammond for Safe Hammond Schools. The program kicked off this week with the start of classes at all Hammond area schools.

HAMMOND---As part of the City's efforts to maintain its status as the state's "Cleanest City" for 2007, Mayor Mayson Foster announced today that the City of Hammond will be stepping up enforcement of its local sign ordinance.
Outlined in city code regulations for more than a decade, Hammond's sign ordinance requires candidates running for public office and anyone else placing disposable signs inside the city limits to apply for a permit and post a $250 deposit with the City Building Inspector's office.

HAMMOND----Property owners take note: The City of Hammond recently cited more than 100 properties found to be in violation of the city's grass or trash ordinance.
Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster said 116 different properties were legally advertised last week in the city's official journal, calling for the owners or responsible parties to make necessary arrangements to clean the sites within ten days or face the penalty prescribed by local law.

HAMMOND---TEAM HAMMOND will "Light Up the Sky on the 3rd of July" with the City's biggest-ever fireworks extravaganza and a salute to local military personnel as part of Hammond's annual Independence Day celebrations in Zemurray Park.
The 9th annual event, which is free and open to the public, will be held Tuesday, July 3, in Zemurray Park, which is located at the corners of S. Oak and W. Coleman Ave. in Hammond.

PARTNERSHIPS FOR HAMMOND---Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster and George Perkins, founder of the Tangipahoa Parish African American Heritage and Veterans Museum in Hammond, sign a cooperative endeavor between the city and the museum for a one-year funding agreement. The Hammond City Council recently agreed to allocate $150,000 in the 2007-08 budget year to help underwrite activities and operations at the museum, which is being recognized on a state and regional level for its development and outreach programs.

HAMMOND---June is National Homeownership Month, and the city of Hammond is recognizing the occasion by a mayoral proclamation and by organizing a series of events to promote homeownership. Among the events planned are a housing fair and a credit counseling drive.
Under Mayor Mayson Foster's administration, housing has become a top priority. Officials recently completed the "Hammond Area Workforce Housing Study" and a strategic plan to address the needs for workforce housing.

HAMMOND---"WE WON!!!"
That was the message city employees found in their email Friday morning after the City of Hammond received word late Thursday that it is, in fact, Louisiana's "Cleanest City."
Mayor Mayson Foster said he was ecstatic, blanketing the inboxes of more than one hundred city employees, department heads, and civic leaders with the news that after a brief hiatus, Hammond is once again, number one.

HAMMOND---Starting Monday, April 9, motorists can expect a new three-way stop, two new four-way stops, and a move to eliminate a few parking spaces in order to improve visibility in downtown Hammond.
Mayor Mayson Foster announced today that the changes are coming, thanks in part, to the City's safety committee, which recommended fine tuning some of Hammond's busiest intersections in hopes of improving traffic flow downtown.

HAMMOND---Mayor Mayson Foster announced today that this Saturday, March 24, will be Hammond’s annual Trash Bash pickup day in preparation for the 2007 Cleanest City Contest next week.
Foster said the Trash Bash will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until noon. Groups will meet at the downtown parking mall areas between Charles and Robert streets.
Interested organizations wanting to participate should call (985) 543-3236. Gloves and bags will be available.
