The Hammond Historic District Commission would like to welcome you to our Historic District.  In 1978 the Hammond City Council established by ordinance the Hammond Historic District as a means of protecting and preserving the unique buildings and features of our city’s past.  In 1980 the National Park Service of the U.S.  Department of the Interior also designated parts of downtown Hammond as a historic district listed in the National Register of Historic Places.  The Historic District is made up of 17 blocks and 95 buildings dating from approximately 1880-1944 in varying styles including Queen Anne Revival, Mission, Commercial Arts and Crafts, Art Moderne, Art Deco, and Renaissance Revival.  Through the designation of our Historic District we have been able to recognize and preserve many of the jewels of our city; our historic buildings.  We are happy to share these with you and hope you will enjoy your tour.
